This whole series is kinda hard to follow. Like half the people think he is trash the other half think he is a god. I get why the old man he helped knows he is a master but dont get it for the other people.

The other people are the young master who crashed the sister-in-law's birthday party. MC beat him up, so the young master showed up at the restaurant later with his dad to kill him or beat him to being crippled for life, however someone from the mayors mansion showed up to defend him because they discovered h was friends with the old man who he helped to cure in the forest. The old man and his clan are a powerhouse stronger than the entire city put together...that is why when the young master and his father found out about it they had to apologize and try to cozy up to him.

I was thinking the same as well. Then I picked up the novel just to see why he is such... unresponsive piece of wood.

All I can say without spoiling, everything will start making sense in around 20-30 episodes.

He can't really blame anyone in Wen family. Both, him and Wen family are prisoners of this marriage contract. Su family pretty much killed his mother (typical wife-concubine/my child-your child drama) and then threw him out to fend for himself and when he lost cultivation, they forced former maid (Wen granny) to marry her most outstanding progeny just to keep the face of Su family. Second reason is that with his former status, arguing Wen members would be like you arguing random ants by the roadside, especially since ants were forced into action. And main catch is this... Su family imposed two restrictions on this marriage... if Wen family tries to cancel it, Wen family gets destroyed and if Su Yi ever acts in name of Su family or steps in capital he is executed. As far as why he likes sister and not wife? Well, 5 minutes after marriage which was the first day they met, wife run away to cultivate so she could be strong enough to pressure Su family to cancel marriage, while sister was always with him

And people fighting over him is simple golden child blessing in all martial arts novels where friends benefit. As soon as he was recognized as talent by old Xiao, he got that status in view of people who knew

After 15 or so episodes story finally takes off and his character also changes 360 degrees
